In Witnessing Ted, Carol Poteat travels to New Mexico’s Golden Willow Retreat, founded by Ted Wiard and his wife, Marcella. Carol’s mission is to witness Ted’s personal account of how he journeyed from loss to recovery following the death of his first wife, brother, two children and mother-in-law. In this intense and compassionate story, we gradually discover the power of conscious healing.
Through short vignettes, readers experience the raw, unintellectualized emotion of Ted's losses, which gives them permission to work through their own grief. Poignant photographs and quotes further encourage and inspire the individual's journey to healing, while the keys to understanding and working through grief, revealed through the author's own story, illuminate the path.
Witnessing Ted undoubtedly transcends other works that deal with the subject of loss. The grief cycle is said to comprise of five stages denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance, but this book takes readers through a sixth aspect, relocation, where they will experience a renewed sense of purpose.
A licensed clinical therapist, certified grief counselor, and ordained minister, Ted Wiard is also an accomplished international speaker and an author of numerous articles.
As a writer, professional coach, and consultant, Carol Poteat's first book demonstrates her ability to facilitate an understanding of complex subject matter. Her business acuity, founded in twenty years of advertising sales and management, coupled with her lifetime pursuit of spiritual insight, enable her to relate to people from all walks of life. Crafted in a way that will touch hearts and offer hope, this book gently guides us through the pain of our losses to the expression of a wiser, more authentic self.

Witnessing Ted The Journey to Potential through Grief and Loss edition by Carol Poteat Ted Wiard SelfHelp eBooks Reviews
Ted's story of unfathomable loss and the aspects of grieving changed my life. Thank you Ted for sharing your story to help others.
We have all experienced loss and grief in our lives. Ted and Carol's journey in the telling of their experiences gives the reader permission and encouragement to join them in a transformative healing process. I just ordered several copies to give as gifts. Oprah Winfrey's Network featured Ted's Golden Willow Retreat in Shania Twain's Why Not series. Watching the Golden Willow episode gives a good feel for Ted's work.
This book was a very short, but full of raw emotion, growth, love, acceptance, grief, healing and sharing. Ted has had so much tragedy in such a short amount of time....and with patience and a willingness to want to go on.....he has found ways to learn to cope with his grief. Through his journey, he has figured out ways to help others. Ted was put in this circumstance.because he was the tool.needed to.be a guiding star for others lost in their own hurt. Two thumbs up!
Happy with this purchase
As with the other reviewers, I could not put down the book. Which should say volumes for a book about grief and loss. The way the story of Ted's losses is paired with the guidance and wisdom for each of us to learn how to also deal with our own grief and losses. Carol also adds her own stories, as well as, the experience of learning from Ted, which helped me feel I was with them on this journey. Their courage helps to show the way for us all to find our courage. Their ability to have such hope and willingness to live life, can help us all to find ways to keep showing up, and being willing to risk in life and love. The teaming of Ted Wiard and Carol Poteat is a wonderful gift, which I hope for more to come.
For months after my son died unexpectedly at the age of 40 of a heart attack well meaning friends gave me books to read. None of them resonated with me, they were words that I could not relate to. Then 4 year later a new acquaintance gave me Witnessing Ted. All I read was the back cover and I felt connected. It is the only book about dealing with the loss of my son that I finished. I hope it does the same for you.
Tony's Dad.
I have experienced depression a couple of times in my life, and its a tough, dark experience. I know Ted Wiard personally, and have also attended Golden Willow Retreat in Taos, NM. I can sincerely state ghat both he & the retreat have changed my life; the way I view other people, the world (especially natures splendor), and how I choose to live my daily life! This book is very supportive & basic, although dealing with an especially challenging part of our own existance & personal dynamics. Especially beneficial is that it would be a welcome book to continue to pass along to those "stuck" in a life without appreciation, self worth and sadness.
If you have suffered a profound loss or wish to support someone who is, I would put this book in the "MUST READ" category.
